Their story

Meet Abdullah Maskari.

Instructor and equipment specialist combining ten years of diving with a deep interest in equipment, physics and physiology.

Abdullah found his calling in scuba diving because it brings together the ocean, exploration, technical skill and his curiosity about physics and physiology. A PADI Specialty Instructor, Trimix Technical Diver, Rebreather Diver and Cave Diver, he has spent ten years underwater and four years with Omanta.

He is especially interested in dive equipment and enjoys teaching students who want to take their skills further. Outside diving, Abdullah rides motorbikes and prototypes his own equipment. For him, science and technology turn the human body into a vessel for exploring the ocean and discovering the unknown.

In their own words

Diving stories and advice.

What is your favourite dive site in Oman, and why?

Oman offers remarkable variety within a small area: the diving at the Daymaniyat Islands and Bandar Khairan is breathtaking, yet each feels completely different. If I had to choose, Fahal Island holds a special place for me. It is underrated and full of secrets.

What is your most memorable underwater moment?

A perfect dive at Aquarium in the Daymaniyat Islands. The water was glassy, still and crystal clear. Schools of every colour swirled above squid, and then the sunlight suddenly disappeared. I looked up to see my first two whale sharks of the season. Unforgettable.

What advice would you give to a new diver?

Every dive is a good dive because every dive teaches you something. Even at the same site, you will encounter a different mix of marine life, conditions and challenges. Keep diving, keep learning and keep exploring.
